I went to the New York Historical Society with a friend today. We had somehow never been there, despite both having lived in New York since 2008 (excepting study abroad), and despite being huge US history nerds. The sounds we made when we stumbled upon these, Hamilton and Burr’s dueling pistols, were so far from dignified, it doesn’t really bear talking about.
Anyway, the museum is great, highly recommended if you are into that sort of thing! The Emancipation Proclamation is also there, just chilling in a random corner where nobody pays attention to it (!!!). And the special exhibit on right now (through May 27th) is a really great one on New York during WWII. I learned some things that I didn’t know, which is saying something, since I am a JUNKIE. Good stuff!
